Breaking in a New Mattress

Though a mattress can feel perfect when in store, just like shoes, it has to be broken in before it can bring you the ultimate comfort. Whats common between these two items is that they both take time to shape into each person’s specific body shape. Though this is claimed to only be achieved over time but here are some factors you ought to consider when welcoming your new mattress into your home.

Only Time can Tell

When it comes to a new mattress, sometimes it can be hard to be patient with breaking it in but some people do not even feel the change in their mattress. However, for those that do, it is common to start feeling fully comfortable in their new bed after a month. If you do not feel any comfort from your mattress still after a couple of months, it’s time to head back to your local bed sale in NZ and get yourself a new bed. Though it might have looked perfect for you in store, sometimes it is easy to make the wrong decision.

It Needs to be Broken In?

Each body is different and while some beds can be suited better depending on the person, there still needs to be time for the fabrics and materials in the mattress to conform to the shape of your body. The materials become more flexible and foldable over time as you continue to use it but does eventually loose any good support over time. Ideally, you should be looking at changing your mattress every eight years. Thankfully it is easy for you to buy beds in NZ with a wide range of stores like Best Beds, who can provide you with quality products and advice.

Break in Periods for Different Kinds of Mattresses

There is no confirmed mattress break in time for all mattresses, however, depending on what kind of mattress you have purchased, there are break-in periods. The longest break in period being with the memory foam mattress, which may take up to eight weeks to be fully broken in. Due to the high density of the foam, the mattress requires more time for the foam cells to open up and the material to loosen. The most common beds in NZ are the traditional innerspring mattresses, which generally have the quickest break in period compared to most beds. Though this seems attractive, it is not entirely ideal as their lifespan also reflects this and are generally shorter. The spring support can be worn down significantly over time and after four weeks, your mattress will start to hold your shape completely. It is highly recommended for you to flip and rate your mattress every threw months to avoid sagging. A latex foam bed is one that you will feel the significant difference in after broken in. Due to them being softer, they tend to have a shorter break in period as the material can break down more quickly. It is good to keep this in mind when going to buy mattresses in NZ as it can help you determine what kind of mattress you’d prefer.

Changing Temperature of Beds

There are small things you can do to your mattress to help speed the process along like keeping the room temperature warmer by a few degrees or placing some heavy items on the bed during the day. Make sure to distribute the weight around the bed.
