How to Clean and Care Your Bed?

Sometimes we try to be careful and not spill anything while eating or drinking in our beds in Auckland late at night or living our dream of being a hermit and staying in bed with no worries. But, since we’re human and accidents happen, we will spill things and sometimes the things we spill just end up seeping through our mattress.

We’ve all heard the saying “panicking won’t help anything.” This is 100% true when it comes to spilling something in your bed. Usually, stains become something you will just have to live with if you don’t know how to get rid of it the right way.

How to Clean Beds in NZ the Right Way?

There’s a right way and a wrong way. The really wrong way is to do a shrug and try to forget about what you’ve just witnessed on your mattress. The right way is to get straight onto it. Here are the tips on how to clean your mattress:

For Wine Stains:

Blot at this stain with a mixture of dish soap and water. Then, dab at the wet stain with a dry towel or a paper towel to soak up the moisture. Then it’s time to dry the mattress. Lay it in the sun for a day or two or you can try vacuum the wet mattress to dry it.

Mold and Mildew Stains:

When we buy beds in NZ, it’s not uncommon to expect mold and mildew stains. This is caused by too much moisture. A quick and easy way is to put your mattress out in the sun to let it dry. Another way to clean is to vacuum your mattress. But be sure to get rid of the vacuum’s filter and bag or else the mold will leak out the next time you vacuum.

Fizzy Drink Spill:

If you are only notice the stain during your scheduled “strip of the sheets” then it’s not time to panic either. Simply mix boiling hot water with soap then get a towel or a cloth to blot it with. Don’t rub it in.

A Regular Cleaning:

Sometimes beds in NZ are in need of a good clean even when we haven’t had any clumsy accidents. First off, a vacuum is always a good start. Or you could even try using an upholstery cleaner. This has an advantage of getting rid of those pesky dust mites. A good tip is to use enzyme cleaners which help prevent a massive build up of future stains.

Also, get into the habit of flipping those beds in Auckland once a week to let it air out. Even mattresses have to breathe too.
